Your bustline can impact your self-esteem and self-image. Breast augmentation surgery can address a variety of aesthetic concerns with your bust to help you look and feel your best. It might be the right solution for you (an emphasis on might).

At Prime Plastic Surgery in La Jolla, CA, we can help you achieve the bustline you have always dreamed of having. However, getting breast implants is not right for everyone.

Learn what breast augmentation is and if it is the right cosmetic surgery for you. If you’d like to discuss breast augmentation options here in La Jolla, please reach out for a consultation.

What Can Breast Augmentation Address?

Breast augmentation can address a variety of concerns that affect the appearance of the breasts.

Breast Augmentation for Small Breasts

Small breasts can make a woman feel self-conscious. A breast augmentation can boost the size of your breasts since the implants will increase your bra cup size.

Breast Augmentation for Asymmetrical Breasts

A little asymmetry of the breasts is natural. Significant asymmetry can affect the kinds of swimwear and tops that you wear. One breast implant or two can help even out lopsided breasts.

Breast Augmentation for Droopy or Sagging Breasts

Drooping and sagging can occur with age and following pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. A breast augmentation can give you a lifted, more youthful bust.

Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation was the second most popular plastic surgery procedure in 2022, with 298,568 procedures performed according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Many women are good candidates for the procedure; you may be a good candidate for breast augmentation if you meet the criteria listed below.

You’re Concerned About the Appearance of Your Breasts

Breast augmentation can reshape your breasts, improve symmetry, and increase the size of your breasts. If you have concerns about those aesthetic issues, breast augmentation may be just what you need.

You Are in Good Overall Health

Breast augmentation patients must be in good overall health to undergo this surgical procedure. If you have a medical condition or take any prescription medications, please let us know so we can ensure the safest procedure possible.

You Are a Non-Smoker

Smoking can increase your risk of certain post-op complications and slow your healing. It is best to stop smoking before your breast augmentation surgery and continue to avoid tobacco products for the foreseeable future.

You Understand the Benefits and Risks of Surgery

It is important to understand that breast augmentation surgery, while typically safe, carries a number of risks. We can go over all of the risks and benefits of getting breast implants during a consultation at my La Jolla cosmetic surgery center. This will allow you to consider if breast augmentation is best for you.

You Have Realistic Expectations

We want you to have the bustline you’ve dreamed of, but we also want you to understand that not all expectations are reasonable. We will discuss your goals and expectations during your consultation so you have a reasonable expectation of what your results will look like once you are healed.

Discuss Your Candidacy With a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon

A skilled plastic surgeon can give you all the information you need to make the best choice possible for your needs. As a board-certified plastic surgeon with almost 50 years of experience, I can offer my honest insights into the surgical process, post-surgical scarring concerns, and implant safety.

Come visit my office in La Jolla to find out if breast augmentation is the surgery for you.

Can Breast Augmentation Be Combined With Other Procedures?

Yes!

We can combine breast enlargement with other cosmetic surgery procedures at our La Jolla practice to help you achieve a more appealing figure.

Combining Implants With a Breast Lift

If you have breasts that sag a lot, it may be a good idea to perform a breast lift surgery (mastopexy) combined with breast implants. Implants can add that firmness and shape that a breast lift alone may not be able to achieve. The use of implants can also help even out drooping breasts that are asymmetrical.

Combining Implants With a Breast Reduction

While it may seem counterintuitive, sometimes we can place implants during a breast reduction procedure (reduction mammaplasty). In these cases, the implant serves the same function as it would in a breast lift with implants: offering some firmness and symmetry to the shape of the treated breast(s).

Combining Breast Augmentation With Body Contouring

Pregnancy, childbirth, and significant weight loss can all change your body’s curves and contours. That’s why we sometimes use breast implants when performing various body sculpting and contouring surgeries.

Say that you’ve lost a lot of weight from diet and exercise and notice your breasts droop or have changed in volume. You may want to consider a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) for your love handles and lower abdomen as well as breast augmentation surgery.

There are also many changes to the body caused by pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. In these situations, it’s probably best to get a total mommy makeover. This will target the stomach and hips, the lower extremities, the arms, and your torso.

I’ve Had a Breast Augmentation Before, But I’m Not Happy with the Results: Can You Help?

If you have had a breast augmentation in the past but aren’t happy with your results, a corrective revision breast augmentation may be possible.

During your consultation, I will discuss what you are unhappy with to determine if your goals are achievable with a corrective breast augmentation. While we want you to be confident with your surgery results, we also want to ensure you have realistic expectations.
